On a lonely plateau miles away from anything lived an ancient tree for thousands of years. As is the way with Bristlecones, the oldest living things on Earth, their form tells something of the story of their harsh existence in life at 12,000ft. The trees can often remain standing for another thousands of years after death, as was the case here in the emerging moonlight.
