Kingdom of the Wind (2013)
Torres Del Paine, Chile
The winds were absolutely amazing. Getting soaked for this one was one of the most memorable shoots of my life. Waves more than 2 meters high at times, driven by winds gusting to hurricane force were what I wanted to capture. Almost all of my hundreds of shots were lost to spray and the camera and I both took a major beating. It was an experience I'll never forget and this one of the few shots I was able to make captured something of the essence of the amazing weather and power I felt in this place.
The painterly look comes from a shutter speed of 1/4 second, and the massive amount of blowing spray throughout. Photo © copyright by Marc Adamus.
